Ran 2:57 marathon in college 20 years ago.

Most all of my PRs are from when I was 29 and 30.

Half Marathon PR 1:17:16 (my best race ever 53rd place Indy Mini 1999)

10 Mile PR 57:22

15K PR 53:24

10K PR 34:29

5K PR 16:32

Short-Term Running Goals:

Start running again and run 1:30 for a half marathon this fall.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Break 3 hours for the marathon

Sub 17 5K, Sub 36 10K.

Personal:

I am married and have two wonderful kids, 14 and 10.  I've been running since 1982.  I never get "basic" injuries.  I always get the real nasty career threatening kind, like stress fracture of the sacrum, ganglion cyst clamping  down on my peroneal nerve.

Tonight ran from Meadows through Deming, Lawrin, Terre Vista and Woodridge and back in 1:06:32.  Started out really dragging and left knee tender.  Temp very warm 89 and sunny but not too humid.  Last mile in 6:32.  Today at lunch did 30 min on the Octane watching Federer come back from two sets down.  4.63 miles.

Tonight ran a pretty tough 8 miles in 55:25.  Started out feeling really crappy, first mile in 7:29.  Legs felt better, just lack of sleep had me really dragging the first few miles.  Temp warm once again 84 and a little humid.  Today during lunch, really struggled on the Octane.  Just around 4.25 miles in the 30 minutes.

Today did a 3 mile AT run w/ Jeff and Josh at WW Middle School track w/ 100m straightaways at 5:40 pace, curves 6:15 to 6:20 pace.  Total time 17:50 (5:55,5:59,5:56).  2 mile warmup and 2 mile cooldown.  Light rain at start, and very cool, 58 and humid.  Pretty good run considering the legs aren't totally there with the high volume of miles.  No Octane today.

Ran an easy 7 miles w/ Jeff and Josh from Meadows school down Heritage Trail, through cemetery, Deming Park and zig-zagged through Woodgate.  Total time 51:18.  Legs a little sore from yesterday.

This evening, ran an easy 7 w/ Jeff and Josh from Trib Star building, across trestle on trails and back in 47:18.  Had 25:00 half way, really picked up on the way back, although still easy.  Temp warmer and sunny 74.  Really tired from work the past few days.  No Octane during lunch...

Ran an easy 7 miles w/ Jeff & Josh from the Y to the trails over by West T on the river front.  Kinda quick still, 49:32.  Temp a little warmer, but still nice, 77 at 11:30 this morning.  Back of left knee has been tender the past few days, but not when I run.

Ran the Hawthorn Half Day Relay as a 2-person team with Dave Mason.  Ran pretty strong up through 27 miles, then started struggling from there on.  Then on my 12th lap started cramping severely.  Took 44:46 to walk that 5K and when I finished everything severely cramped up and I was done for the day.  Dave ended up running the last 2 hours 48 minutes by himself, getting 46+ miles to give us 83.1 miles for 2nd in our division.  Left knee didn't pose a problem at all.  My calfs are still twitching.  I was hydrating and fueling well, but apparantly OJ and gatorade don't supply the right amount and kinds of electrolytes.  My first Ultra.  Thinking it may be a long time before I ever attempt something like this again, but I do think I can still do well in a marathon.  Going to take some time off.  Been training hard non-stop since February.

Ran the first 3.25 miles of Jeff and Josh's run with them out at Hawthorn Park.  Legs are still quite dead.  Actually ran normal pace, 22:45.  Pretty warm and humid, 88.  Back of knee didn't hurt at all during run.

Did 5 minutes on the Octane before. Legs didn't feel all that great. Then tried to run 3 miles. Didn't even make it a quarter mile before I was walking and stretching. Legs are completely unresponsive. Ran another quarter mile and turned around to head back home. Had to stop at 3/4 and walk the rest of the way home... Might take quite a while to recover.

Ran a pretty decent 5 miles tonight, from home, Hasselburger loop.  Pretty quick considering my legs are still pretty sore, tons better than I felt lastnight.  34:13 for 5 miles.  Temp a pretty warm 89 degrees and humid, pre-storm weather.

Ran a pretty good 7.5 miles from Meadows through Deming, Woodridge, etc. in 51:50.  Legs were really shot at the beginning but felt better as I went.  Very warm and humid 89.  Really struggled the last half mile.

Ran a really tough 8 miles tonight in 57:52.  Started out pretty slow, first 3 miles in 23:00.  Temp very warm 94 when I started.  Met up with Josh and Jeff about 28 minutes in and was able to pick it up and run sub 7 pace the rest of the way.  Really really struggling in the heat while recovering from the Half Day.

Ran a really tough 8 miles tonight in 57:28.  Really struggled in the heat and still recovering from the Half Day.  Actually hit "the wall" at about 3 miles in!  At one point about 6 miles in, the deer flies started attacking me and I dropped down to 6:15 pace trying to get away from them and I couldn't.  It was bad.  I was cussing and flailing my arms around.  Looked ridiculous I'm sure, like a paranoia in a movie!  89 when I ran at 8:15 tonight.  Earlier, ran not quite a mile with Austin's CC team.

Woo Hoo! My first post-ultra workout today.  I had doubts about even trying a workout.  It was a hot and humid 90 degrees.  Went to Hawthorn Park and ran an easy warmup with some of the WVRR club who just ran Grandma's this past weekend.  Then did 5x1000m on the trails, starting out slow, wondering what would come of it, but turned out pretty good (3:48,3:42,3:36,3:32,3:30).  Then did a 2 mile cooldown w/ the calfs wanting to cramp up on me.  Big boost here.  Going to jump into some local 5Ks over the next few weeks including this weekend.  Shooting for my first race as a Masters runner at the "Personal Best 5 Miler" in Indy on August 8th.

Ran a pretty tough 5K race today in Newport Indiana.  First mile had about 600m through a freshly cut hay field, then up a tough half mile climb up hill.  Definitely don't have any speed right now.  Very hot 90 and humid at 5:00 pm

Ran an easy 8 miles this morning w/ Tom Dever, Tim Monaghan, Brandon Query and Ethan (Paige?) in 1:01:13.  Had 32:30 half way.  The last mile, we did 200m pickups w/ 200m jogs.  Back of left knee tight earlier this morning.  Still not bothering me when I run, but something is aggravating the popliteus muscle.  Yesterday's mile down hill in that race probably contributed.  Gotta figure out how to nurse the popliteus...

Got up and ran cut-down mile repeats on the track with Tom, Tim, Tim, Vaughn and Josh at 5:30 this morning.  Each repeat intended to be half marathon pace, shave off seconds after each one with a one minute recovery.  Ran 1.5 mile warmup, then ran repeats on WW MS track in 6:11,5:55,5:56 (oops), 5:50,5:48.  First time I've ever done that workout.  Ran 4 mile cooldown afterward.  Temp nice and cool 71.

 

This evening ran 5x600m w/ Austin's CC team to pace the 6:00 pace group (2:07,2:11,2:12,2:12,2:06) w/ 1/4 mile warmup on the track.
